There are Alex Clarks who are estate agents, Alex Clarks who are models, Alex Clarks who judged the Man Booker 2008 and Alex Clarks who are ‘unapologetically sexy Internet cat ladies’. I’m the other one.
I write poems and short stories: mostly literary fiction, though I have a soft spot for old-fashioned ghost stories. I am currently editing my first novel – a literary fiction story concerning a séance, a shipwreck and the problems of fatalism – and am planning my second. I am seeking representation.
Before I was a writer I worked a number of jobs, including stonemasonry, archaeology, waitressing, gardening and growing genetically modified tobacco plants for scientific research, all of which have been great for material. I live in Cheltenham, in the UK, with my husband and daughters.
