There are Alex Clarks who are estate agents, Alex Clarks who are models, Alex Clarks who judged the Man Booker 2008 and Alex Clarks who are ‘unapologetically sexy Internet cat ladies’. I’m the other one.
I write short stories: mostly literary fiction, though I have a soft spot for old-fashioned ghost stories. I am currently working on a novel. I also run the quarterly open mic flash fiction night Flashers’ Club (check out the website here), and host monthly writers’ retreats for Writers’ HQ.
Before I was a writer I had a number of very silly jobs including stonemasonry, archaeology, waitressing, gardening and growing genetically modified tobacco plants for scientific research, all of which have been great for material. I live in Cheltenham, in the UK, with my husband and daughter.
